Assemblies and Collective Worship

Assemblies (in the Infant School) and collective worship (in the Junior School) are a valued and special part of the school day.  At Liphook Federation, we focus on a core value each term. In the infant school, we introduce each value through a range of picture books and three carefully chosen Bible stories. As pupils progress to the Junior School, they explore the theological foundations of each value in greater depth.

Oracy is central to our assemblies and collective worship, ensuring that every voice is valued and heard. Singing enriches this important part of the school day.

Prayer is an important part of Junior School life; children’s prayers contribute to and enrich collective worship. Class reflection areas include prayer stones, where children can take a stone and say a prayer. Pupils actively participate in prayer spaces thoughtfully designed to reflect key Christian festivals, providing meaningful opportunities for personal reflection and spiritual growth.

Each class in the Junior School has a reflection area, providing children with a quiet space to pause, think and reflect.  The week’s theme and ‘pause for thought’ are displayed, encouraging children to deepen their thinking beyond collective worship. Reflections from collective worship and other marvelling moments are recorded and displayed.

We celebrate key Christian festivals throughout the liturgical calendar, with pupils from Year 2 – Year 6 leading church services.  A highlight of the school year is Canada Day, when Year 4 joins with the village community, veterans’ families, and key military personnel from Britain and Canada to honour the 318 Canadian soldiers who lost their lives during or shortly after The First World War.
